N. Kevin “Chip” Dean, age 69, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 in Pittsfield, after a brief illness.
Born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on March 28, 1953, he was the son of the late Norman C. and Helen Phair Dean. Chip was educated in the local schools and was a 1971 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He obtained his Electricians’ license on March 24, 1975.
Prior to that, Chip at age of 13, worked doing various odd jobs for the former family business, William L. Phair & Sons Company. After 30 years, he transitioned to his new career installing and servicing safety and fire suppression equipment throughout the country at historical sites, including those in Bermuda. He retired in 2019 with nearly 40 years of combined service.
Chip was a huge NASCAR fan who traveled every year to race week at the New Hampshire Raceway in Loudon, NH. Chip loved to tend to his home and to his yard. He was proud of his Slot Car Raceway and his full model train layout, complete with scenic buildings and landscape, which he maintained in his basement all year round. He also was the neighborhood handy man for many neighbors and friends.
For 16 years, he volunteered many hours with the Annual Father-Daughter Dance at St. Marks’ Middle School in setting up the staging and electrical needs for the event. He would return that same evening with his daughter, Lynden to dance the night away.
He is survived by his daughter Lynden E. Dufour-Dean of Lake Wales, FL and her companion Justin Volpi, his sister, Sally J. Dean of Pittsfield, his aunts and many cousins. Additionally, he was very fond of his cat, Lilly.
