Obituary of Myrtle A. White
WHITE, Myrtle A. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre. She was 100 years old.
Myrtle A. Moldenhauer was born on October 31, 1913 in Auburn, Michigan to the late Herman F. and Lulu (King) Moldenhauer.
Myrtle attended Freeland Schools as a youngster and graduated from Saginaw High School in 1932. With the desire to be a school teacher, she moved on to Saginaw County Normal for one year, and became qualified to teach. She taught grades 1-8 in the one room Smith School in Hemlock, Michigan in 1933. Following that, she also taught at Otto, Dixie, and Freeland Schools. In 1943, she moved to the Bridgeport-Spaulding System, teaching kindergarten while earning a bachelor’s degree. She graduated from Central Michigan University in 1949, with highest honors. She became an Assistant Superintendent for the Bridgeport-Spaulding System, retiring in 1964.
She married Thomas W. White in 1960, becoming an instant, much loved Grandma Myrtle to G. Tom Jr., Paul B., David C. and Mary E. White.
She was active in Ames Methodist and Bridgeport Community Churches, teaching Sunday and vacation bible school for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas W. White; brothers: Vern Moldenhauer, Ernest Moldenhauer, Harold Moldenhauer, and Earl Moldenhauer; and sister, Marguerite Hofmeister.
Surviving are step-son, Dr. Gerald (Vivian) White; grandchildren, G. Tom Jr. (Melissa) White, Paul B. White, Dr. David C. (Debbie) White, Mary E. (Matt) Howard; sister, Myra Douglas; nieces: Barbara Carter and Carol (Richard) Downer; and nephews: Ronald (JoAnn) Moldenhauer, Harold (Carole) Moldenhauer, Jr., Larry Douglas, Gary (Rose) Moldenhauer, Robert Moldenhauer.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at the Hoyt facility, as well as the caregivers Myrtle had at her home.
