Myrtha M. (Klaiber) Carter, age 94 of Midland died Sunday, September 12, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late Rev. August W. and Ida M. (Buntrock) Klaiber was born on July 1, 1921, in Detroit where she was raised and educated.

Myrtha graduated from Western Michigan University in 1943 with a BA in Education. On October 17, 1944, she married Robert J. Carter in Holt, MI moving to Midland in 1956.

She later received her MA in Early Childhood Education from Central Michigan University.

Myrtha taught Kindergarten at Siebert School for fifteen years, retiring in 1988, she loved it when her kindergarteners would hug her knees and tell her “you are the best teacher I ever had”.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sweet Adeline’s Music, Midland Lioness Club, and Michigan Education Association.

Myrtha is survived by her husband of 70 years Robert J. Carter Sr., sons John (Silvia) Carter, DDS of Midland and their children Megan and Jay, Robert J. Carter, Jr. of Delton, and his children Alison and Erica Carter (Zia) Shook, Nicholas Carter of Detroit, and his children Nina and Olivia, Christopher (Jennifer) Carter of Rochester, NY, and their children Madison and Dane, and Eric (Kay) Carter of Midland, and their children Matthew and Andrew; daughters Constance Johnson of Delton, Myrthann (Mark) Francisco of Midland, and their children Ali, Ariel, Marcus and Matthias.

Also, surviving is her precious great-granddaughter, Nova Rose Shook, born June 27th, 2015. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Daniel D. Johnson.
