DURHAM Mrs. Myrna Cook “Granny” Briggs, 86, of Durham, died at her home on Sunday, March 2, 2014.
Mrs. Briggs was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Andrew Taylor Cook. She was employed with Burlington Industries as a seamstress for 17 years. She was affectionately known as “Granny” By her family and all the children whose lives she had touched. She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and the Martha Class. She served in the children’s nursery for over 50 years. She also had provided child care for her grandchildren and several other children. She served her church, family and friends in many ways over her many years but most importantly she served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Briggs; daughter, Mollie Briggs Shannon and great-granddaughter, Olivia Faith Trueheart.
She is survived by her children, Ruby Massey (Leon), Peggy Clements (Merrick) and Ronald “Porky” Briggs all of Durham and Jackie Hemphill (Charlie) of Chatham County; grandchildren, Andrea Massey of Raleigh, Jennifer Trueheart of Stem, Robbin Wagner of Durham, Amelia Rose (Richard) of Durham, Mark Evangelist of Morrisville, Amy Waddell ( Jeremy) of Raleigh, Greg Davis of Durham and Amanda Straughn (Kevin) of Durham; great-grandchildren, Luke Trueheart, Brady Trueheart, Taylor Wagner, Coley Rose, Briggs Rose, Sidney Inscoe, Brody Waddell, Eli Straughn and Allie Straughn.
