Mimi Woolley

Myriam June Woolley, 60, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015. She was born December 25, 1954, in Jerome, Idaho, to L. Russell Woolley and Beverly Robinson Woolley. “Mimi” was always the light of every room, the joy in every heart, and the smile needed to brighten any day.
Mimi lived in Jerome, Idaho, for forty-eight years and in Layton, Utah, for the last twelve years.
At the time of her birth, there were no educational opportunities for the mentally impaired. Mimi’s parents were instrumental in getting the first class for special needs children started in their community long before the federal and state laws required it. Her mother also founded an association for special needs children providing much needed funding and support for the new class. Mimi later attended special education in Jerome School District until her graduation.
When her parents served in the Boise LDS Temple, Mimi participated as a Sealing Proxy and performed over 144 Endowments. The temple president gave Mimi a badge that said “Mimi Woolley, Special Proxy.”
She was a Star Trek fan, a 1979 International Special Olympian, and supporter of the Jerome County Fair. During her life, she worked as an assistant maid at the Holiday Inn in Twin Falls, Idaho, and as a client at the Magic Valley Rehab in Twin Falls, Idaho, and later at PARC in Clearfield, Utah.
She was selected “Volunteer of the Year” by Cook Elementary School where she helped in the lunchroom and at recess. The students loved to say “Hi, Miss Mimi”. She has left a lasting impression and wonderful example for the children and staff.
