Mrs. Myra Isabelle Batia Peresich, age 77 of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Myra was born May 5, 1944, to Carroll Leo Batia, Sr. and Viola Lucille Moore Batia in Biloxi, MS. She was the third of four children.
She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Webster College in St. Louis, MO. Myra later earned her Master’s degree from Alabama A&M. After graduating from college, Myra married her high school sweetheart, Gene. They were a couple for 60 years.
Myra was a life-long educator. Teaching was her calling. She touched the lives of innumerable children and their families over her thirty year career. She taught in Alabama, Utah and internationally in Saudi Arabia. She taught all ages and even had the opportunity to tutor an Arabian prince. One of Myra’s greatest joys was to see or hear from former students over the years.
Myra’s hobbies and interests included cooking, reading, traveling and babysitting. Family was her highest priority. All of her thoughts and plans were centered on being able to spend time with all those she considered to be her family.
Myra was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many volunteer church callings and spent many hours in the quiet service of others.
Myra is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents, brother, Carroll Batia, and sister, Joan Ryan.
She is survived by her son, Adam (Karina) Peresich; her daughter, Rebekah (Greg) Hollingshead; and eight grandchildren: Braden, Martin and Daniel Peresich and Camden, Brynn, Ashlen, Dacey and Jaren Hollingshead. She is also survived by her brother, Arlin Batia, and many nieces and nephews.
