Murry D. Fort passed away February 4, 2018.  Murry Donald Fort was born at home in Humboldt County near the Unique Corner on September 3, 1927 to Louis and Eva Carlson Fort.  He grew up on a farm and attended school in Dakota City. Murry served in the US Army from 1945 to 1946 when he was honorably discharged.  Murry married Donna Jean Peltz on October 19, 1947 at the Humboldt Methodist church and this union three son were born: Michael, Gary and Danny. Donna passed away October 16, 2002 after 54 years of marriage. Murry started farming in 1955, and started milking cows in 1956. Murry and Donna grew their dairy operation to one of the largest family owned dairy farms in the state. Murry enjoyed his life of farming, dairy farming until 1979 and then continued grain farming until he retired in 2015 at the age of 87.  Murry served many years on the board of the Humboldt Coop Creamery.

He served nine years on the board of the Farmers Coop of Gilmore City.  He was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Gilmore City. Murry was also a member of the Gilmore City Lions Club and the Humboldt County Farm Bureau.  He also enjoyed music and dancing. Murry taught himself to play the organ and loved to entertain his guests with his music. Murry was united in marriage to Mary Williams on November 17, 2007. Together they enjoyed traveling, dancing and spending time with family. Murry is survived by his wife Mary Williams of Fort Dodge, sons Michael Fort (Kathy) of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Gary Fort (Cindy) of Fort Worth, Texas, and brother Merlin Fort of Dakota City, Iowa. Murry enjoyed spending time with his Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and extended family. He was preceded in death by parents,  Louis and Eva, wife Donna, son Danny, and sister Dee
