Muriel A. Schlegel Haight, 80
Brunswick Muriel A. Schlegel Haight, 80, a lifelong resident of Troy and Brunswick, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 6, 2005.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Lucas) Schlegel. Muriel grew up on Troy’s 17th Street, and could tell a story about every family on her block. She graduated from Troy High School, and worked at the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II. She also worked at Montgomery Ward, and after a break of many years to raise her family and tend to her house and gardens, she retired from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance ten years ago. Muriel loved her time spent at camp on the lake in the Adirondacks.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Matthews (Thomas) of Troy, Russell Haight (Susan) of North Greenbush and Gary Haight of Brunswick. ‘Gram’ is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kelly and Nicholas Matthews and Russell, Adam, Samuel and Hannah Haight, Her first grandson, Kevin Matthews, was awaiting her arrival in heaven. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two dear brothers, Frederick J. and Kenneth J. Schlegel.
