Muriel Mic Hill, May 24, 1921 – May 25, 2013.
Muriel “Mic” Klippel Hill passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital after a long illness. She was 92 years young. Mic was born May 24, 1921, the only child of Walter and Lydia Klippel in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. While attending Oklahoma University, she met and married the love of her life, Garrett Leroy Hill on June 18, 1940. They travelled the world from Hawaii to Japan living in over 25 homes during his long, distinguished career in the Army. Wherever her husband was stationed, Mic became an integral and active part of the community.
Mic was a model, an accomplished artist and art teacher – and even a pilot where she almost accepted an offer to join and fly for the Women’s Army Corps, but was warned of the soon to be declared war by her husband. Throwing lavish parties, Mic was the consummate hostess that included plays she had written, in which the attendees were expected to perform. Mic and Garrett retired in Texas where they were active and very candid citizens at the Morgan’s Point City Council meetings, where Garrett served 12 years.
The City recently renamed the Community Center, the Garrett and Mic Hill Community Center in their honor. Mic and Garrett were dedicated to each other and will be missed by the community and many friends. She had two children, Garrett Leroy Hill III, and Sandra Lynne “Casey” Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70+ years, Col. Ret. Garrett Leroy Hill II and Garrett Leroy Hill III. She is survived by her daughter, two grandchildren and one great-grand child along with her beloved Yorkie, TJ.
