Good bye, Aunt Muriel. Muriel was born on February 25, 1921, in Chicago, Il. She was the youngest of 3 children. Beverly, my mom, was the oldest and Ed, my uncle, was the middle son. She married the love of her life, my uncle Henny. They were happily married for over 62 years.
In her youth my aunt loved sports and animals. She rode horses whenever she had a chance. She qualified to play softball with the Bloomer Girls in Chicago but my grandmother thought it was too masculine and would not let her play. All the family members were avid fishermen and spent many family vacations in Minnesota with my grandparents. Muriel also was a great water skier and tennis player. She often played tennis with the girls in Lakeland.
Muriel was a nurse during WWII. She still had her long wool cape with a bright red collar that she wore in nursing training in Chicago. Every Friday night she would give me an iron shot in my butt because I was anemic.
Muriel was the strength of the family. Everyone looked to her in times of stress and trial. She was the matriarch and lived a long life. As she said last week, “I am the last of the Mohicans!” Muriel, now you are surrounded by your loving family, your beautiful twin girls and your loving husband. It doesn’t get any better.
When my mom, her older sister, died Muriel promised to take care of me. She did that for the next 50 years. Thank you for everything, Aunt Muriel.
You are already missed by Andrea, your niece, Jeff your nephew, and Sharon your friend and neighbor. You didn’t get to spend much time with your great niece, Ashley and your great nephew, Kai because the lived far away.
See you soon, beloved aunt and friend.
