Muriel Joan Cochran, age 84, a lifetime resident of Rensselaer, passed away May 2, 2011 at her home.
Joan was born October 14, 1926, in Rensselaer. She was the daughter of the late Elvin R. Jordan and Helen E. (Rishling) Jordan. On April 11, 1946, in Rensselaer, Joan married Paul O. Cochran. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Paul O. Cochran, four children, Paula (Robert) Bell, Russell (Donna) Cochran and Deborah (Bill) Brown, all of Rensselaer and Linda (Michael) Pugh of Cumming, Georgia; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and three sisters, Barbara Wilcox and Phyllis Blackburn of Rensselaer and Shirley Ellis of Monticello, Indiana.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Irma Lowery, one great-grandson, Avery Bell and one great-great grandson, Tristan Avery Bell. Joan graduated from Rensselaer High School with the class of 1944. She was the former owner of the Chatterbox Café in Rensselaer, both she and Paul owned the Remington Drive-In and she was a former cook at the Rensselaer High School Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rensselaer, the Iroquois Archery Club and the VFW Post 1279 Ladies Auxiliary. Joan was very active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, serving 8 years as president, serving on the Voice of Democracy, Poppy Sales, the annual Easter Egg Hunt, and the Friday night Fish Fry committee. Joan enjoyed community service. She had been a Boy Scout leader and a volunteer at the Rensselaer Care Center for many years.
