Ms. Vivian Carr passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
Vivian Lee Dixon Carr (born as Mittie Lee) was born on December 11, 1930, in Amsterdam, Georgia to Walter and Amanda Griffin Lee.
When Vivian was less than one year old, her mother died and she was adopted by her mother’s first cousin Sarah and her husband John Dixon, in Tallahassee, Florida. She had three siblings from her adopted parents, Refair Holbrook, Johnnie Washington and George Dixon. After the passing of her father John, her brother George moved to Chester, Pennsylvania for better opportunities. When she was twelve, she along with her mother and sisters joined George in Chester.
Vivian was preceded in death by: her sons, William Jr. (known as Bill) and Curtis; 9 siblings, Eva Reynolds, Alberta Knight, Julia Anne Baker, Ethel Collier, Edith Hardin, Gladys Franklin, Alice Mathis, Walter Lee Jr and Earl Lee.
While in Chester, Vivian met and married Rev. William H. Carr and together they had eight children: William H. Carr, Jr (Catherine); Bruce Carr; Patricia Cherry-Ross (Sammie); Curtis Carr; Janet Carr-Dudley (Jerome); Sandra Reece (Clyde); Linda Carr; and Sarah Delrio (Samuel).
Vivian and William had 15 grandchildren, Deanne Fields (Vincent), Cassandra Jervey, Byron Carr (Shanyse), Jenelle Freeman (Henry), Brion Dickerson (Lacretia), Andre Carr, Marcus Carr, Alicia Carr, Sammie Ross, Jr., Shakira Pringley (Desmond), Clyde Reece (Taryn), Crystal Ross, Marketta Newsom, Michael Dudley, and Michael Harkins; 33 great grandchildren; Rev. Carr; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her close niece, Joyce McMillan, and nephew Judge Greg Mathis.
Vivian retired from Elwyn Institute, where she worked as a counselor and later to relocate to Tampa, Florida to enjoy her retirement. While living in Chester, Vivian was a dedicated member of Murphy A.M.E.
