On Sept. 5, 2012, our mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Vera Powers, lost her long and hard fought battle with cancer. She passed peacefully into Heaven to join her beloved husband, Raymond Powers; twin sister, Fran; three other siblings; and her parents. Mom was born to Peter and Mary Harris on Dec. 27, 1932, in Greenport, Long Island, N.Y., where she and her brothers and sisters enjoyed life growing up on the farm. Later, as a beautiful young woman, she met the handsome young airman, Raymond Powers of Philadelphia, Pa., who was stationed at Suffolk County Air Force Base. On July 31, 1954, they were married, and mom and dad’s loving partnership took them on a great adventure from the Azores and Spain to Homestead Air Force Base, Fla., and Pease Air Force Base, N.H., and produced three loving children.

Mom was proud of her Polish descent, and it showed in her cooking. Each holiday and special occasion, she produced copious amounts of perogies, kielbasa, cabbage rolls, and sauerkraut.

Along with many dear friends, mom leaves behind her loving children, Cheryl Mack and husband Bobby, Raymond Powers and wife Lari, Ronald Powers and wife Melinda; her grandchildren, Christina Rountree, Melissa Buffalino, Philip Buffalino and wife Joline, Bill, Hannah, Brady, Jeremiah, Jewlie, and Jaime; and her two precious great-grandchildren, Marlee Rountree and Cianna Buffalino.

Those wishing to say goodbye to mom may do so at St.
