Audrey Cromartie was born September 30, 1935, in Halzehurst, Georgia. The youngest child of the late Robert Walter and Ocella Cromartie, she transitioned Saturday, January 8, 2022, at her home, peacefully.
Audrey was the last surviving sibling of the eight children. Audrey accepted Christ at an early age and then went on to be a devoted member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend S.L. Walker.
During her leisure time, she enjoyed riding the city bus and walking wherever the wind blew. To her friends she was known as “Happy Feet”. You could pass by her walking and ask if she wanted a ride, and she would always say “No, Thank you,” or “I’m Good.” She just insisted on walking!
Her kind and sweet loving soul made it easy for her to be loved by everyone. To her grandchildren and great-grandchild, she was Granny and Ree. She loved to dance and had her own fashion with a multitude of bright colors.
Audrey will always be remembered and cherished forever by her two children: son, Darren Cromartie (Renee), of Tampa, Florida and a loving and devoted daughter, Annette Dawson-Nelson (Tommy), of Tallahassee, Florida; two grandchildren, Ashley Dawson, who was also her caregiver and riding partner, and Kurt Myers; one great-granddaughter, Skye Tilford; two special friends, Benita Stephens and Mary James. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Audrey was preceded in death by her siblings: Robert W. Jr, Edoris, Jimmie Lee, Edward, Vera, Carolyn, Ruby and Hilda.
