Willie Mae McDowell was born October 5, 1940, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Lena Burton and Willie Jarrett.
Willie attended State Street High School and was a majorette dancer in the marching band. Throughout her life she lived in various places that included: Georgia, North Carolina, and New Mexico. She and her family eventually relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in the 1970’s. Once she settled she began working for RCA, Engineer Research, and eventually ended up working in the field of nursing.
Willie Mae had an exuberant personality and a grand sense of humor that would light up any room. Willie Mae never shorted herself from experiencing the luxuries of life. Some of the things she enjoyed doing included bowling, playing cards, taking road trips, and watching football on Sundays.
Willie Mae was called home on September 5, 2021, at the age of eighty years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Curtis McDowell, Sr. (Bill); daughter, Marsha Davis; and her sons, Gilmer (Pappy) Davis and James (Curtis) McDowell Jr.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Sharon Davis McMillian (Clifford), LaKrona Ikeijiani, and Faith Davis; sons, Kevin Davis, Willie Davis, and Michael McDowell(Heather); 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
