Versie Virginia von Spreckelsen, 92, of Tallahassee, peacefully passed away and went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2015. She was born October 6, 1922, in Ponce de Leon, Florida, to the now late George Lee and Etta Lee Padgett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Albert von Spreckelsen; who holds the distinction of being a survivor of the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. She was preceded in death by her children, Glenda Gayle Kirkland, Lee (Buddy) Earl Edwards and Deborah Lynn von Spreckelsen and all her siblings. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jean Edwards, who was married to Lee Earl Edwards; grandchildren, Gary Kirkland, Jason Edwards, Cynthia O’Meara, and Lori Breitenfeld; great-grandchildren, Charley Kirkland, James G. Kirkland William (Billy) O’Meara, Kathrine O’Meara, Anna O’Meara, Sean O’Meara, David O’Meara, Zachary Breitenfeld and Carley Breitenfeld. Virginia leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was a member of First Christian Church, Tallahassee Florida and formerly a member at Englewood Christian Church, Jacksonville Florida. In her early 20’s Virginia worked in the St. Johns River shipyards in Jacksonville, Florida as a ship welder. She was a retired beautician, seamstress and China painter/teacher. She was a member of the Porcelain Artist Association, World Organization of China Painters and several of her works were selected and displayed at the International Museum in Oklahoma City, Ok. While in Tallahassee she was a member of Capital City Porcelain Artists.
