Shirley Massagee Napier, 86, of Tallahassee, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2016. Shirley was born August 5, 1930, in Louisa County, Virginia but grew up in Hamlet, North Carolina. After graduation from Hamlet High School, she attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon graduation, Shirley became an operating room scrub nurse in Laurinburg, and later at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, helping put her husband through NC State University. Tallahassee became their home and Shirley worked as office nurse for several doctors here. After raising two daughters, who became Registered Nurses, Shirley decided to lend her talents to Gayfers Department Store for a time.
She is preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, Samuel Howard Napier and her parents, J. M. and Edith Smith Massagee. A grandson, Justin Michael Bauman, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Susan Napier Bauman and Sandra Napier Kerr (her husband, Roby Morton Kerr, Jr.); grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Bauman, Garrett Andrew Bauman (his wife, Ashley Hughes Bauman), Madison Alexandra Kerr and Harrison Napier Kerr.
