Shirley Davis Helms, 80, of Havana, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2016, at home, while surrounded by her loving family. A daughter of the late Joseph Anthony and Erma Monte Malone Davis, she was born February 26, 1936, in Dora, Alabama. A brother, Alvin Anthony Davis, also preceded her in death. She graduated from Hueytown High School, as well as Keiser University, with a certificate in Medical Transcription. She was a customer complaints representative with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She was a Girl Scouts leader, as well as a loving mother. She was a self-taught artist, being talented in oil painting and China painting. She loved to travel and make bead jewelry and China dolls. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles Lee Helms; children, Scarlet Ann Groves (Clifton Hoyt Groves) and Sheila Diane Hyker (Kenneth Robert) Hyker; grandchildren, Bradford Lee Ottinger, Angel Marie Groves, Samantha Dora Widmer, Charles Aubrey Beard, Stephanie Diane Areson and Katellyn Rose Hyker; great-grandchildren, Damien, Chloe, Gary IV, and Thomas; also surviving is one sister, Gayla Lehotay.
