Rosemary D. Culhane, 92, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2010 surrounded by members of her loving family. A lifelong resident of Waterbury, she most recently resided at The Village at East Farms in Waterbury.  Mrs. Culhane was also a lifelong resident of Milford, CT, where she spent summers since her childhood. It was at Bayview Beach in Milford that Mrs. Culhane was well-known for taking her daily swims in Long Island Sound, sometimes lasting up to two hours and often throughout the month of September and into October.

Mrs. Culhane was born in Waterbury on August 30, 1917, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Larkin) Dowling. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and Immaculata College in Immaculata, PA. While in college Mrs.

Mrs. Culhane devoted her life to her family and is survived by five daughters; Rosemary Sinnott, of Rye, NY, Anne Postles of Williamsville, NY, Maureen Morris of Ridgewood, NJ, Maryjane Markey of New Canaan, CT, and Carroll Kennedy of Rye, NY; four sons, Edward Culhane of Waterbury, Michael Culhane of Middlebury, CT, David Culhane of Milford, CT, and Peter Culhane of Pacific Palisades, CA; and her sister, Maureen Gooding of Warwick, RI. Mrs. Culhane is also survived by 18 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Culhane was predeceased in 1967 by her husband, an oral surgeon in Waterbury, and in 1998, by a granddaughter, Catherine Carroll (“Corey”) Culhane, of Hoboken, NJ.
