Mrs. Rebecca Jane Currie Thompson Clegg, 84, of 683 Cumnock Rd., Sanford, NC., passed Monday, March 11, 2013 at 3013 Foggy Mountain Loop Dr., Sanford, NC.

As a member of St. Paul AME Zion Church, Rebecca served as stewardess, Sunday school teacher, senior choir member, deaconess and missionary. Rebecca was an avid Bible scholar, traveler, quilting and canning enthusiast and a family historian, researching and documenting the history of the Currie and Chalmers family as far back as the 1700s.

She was blessed with the love and care of her first husbanda€”Thomas Thompson, with whom she had one child. After the death of Thomas, she married JC Clegg, whom she loved and cared for until his death.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Gladys Mills (Victor), granddaughter Angel Mills (Fabian Lopez) and two great-grandchildren Lucien and Araya Lopez; two step-grandchildren Victor Mills Jr. and Yolanda Mills and three step grandchildren Jamaal Barnes, Michael Mills and Cortes Blassingame. Through her union with Mr. Clegg, her family grew to include eight step-children: Lois Fox (Thomas), Phyllis Edwards (Ben), Larry Clegg (Doris), Robert Clegg (Cheri), Debra White, Floyd Clegg (Victoria), Eleanor Clegg and Dennis Clegg (Kim) who also survive her in death. She also leaves behind one sister, Bonnie Lewis, two sisters-in-law, Mavis Currie and Willie Currie as well as multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she treasured. Her dedication to God and family, joyful nature and appreciation for life and people set an example for others and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
