Margaret O’Brien Smyly, 76, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020, while surrounded by her family. Born in Jackson Heights, New York City, New York, on June 16, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Everett Melvin and Margaret Stuart Slater O’Brien.
She earned both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from the University of Florida, and worked as a Science Teacher at Rickards High School, a Guidance Counselor at Godby High School and also worked for the Department of Education. Following her educational career, she became a Senior Policy Analyst with Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability. After retiring from OPPAGA, she became a part-time travel agent.
In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, traveling, living the RV lifestyle, scalloping at St. Marks and motorcycling in the Smokies. She is survived by her husband, Edward Stephen Budzyna; step-son, Jason Edward Budzyna (wife, Jordan); and grandchildren, Laurel Taylor Budzyna and Alex Budzyna. No services are planned at this time.
