Margaret “Greta” Egan Lenahan, age 83, beloved wife of Michael J. Lenahan, of Milford, CT, died on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at home with her family at her bedside. Greta was born in Winthrop, MA on October 24, 1926. She was the first born child of the late Lawrence A. and Margaret Sullivan Egan. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in New Haven in 1944. Greta met Mike in 1943 and they were married in 1947. They shared a wonderful life for almost 63 years. They lived in Milford, then Orange, Wallingford and back to Milford in 2001. From 1990 to 2007 they enjoyed their winters in the Vero Beach area of Florida. She leaves five children, Paul (Karen) of North Attleboro, MA; James (Betsy) of McDonough, GA; Thomas (Carol) of Wallingford; Kathryn (Robert) Hurley, and David, of Milford. She also leaves eleven grandchildren: Julie and Karen, Sean and Brooke, Andrew and Kimberly, Brady, Margaret, and Clay Lenahan, and Sean and Connor Hurley. She also is survived by her brother Paul Egan of Salem, CT, her sister Linda Bowen of Milford and six nieces and nephews. Her sister Sheila died in 1955. For years Greta was a homemaker, mother, den mother and brownie leader. She then worked part-time in personnel at Sears. Greta was an all-season “chauffeur” for her five athletic children and other Orange athletes to hockey, soccer, football, baseball, field hockey, basketball and softball practices and games. Never having been an athlete herself, over the years she became an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable sports fan and continued to enjoy seeing her grandchildren’s games whenever feasible. Her family wishes to acknowledge the outstanding care provided by Margarita, Kim and the other Hospice Home Care personnel.
