Mrs. Linda "Lynn" Grant

 United States

  • Date Of Birth: February 29, 1940
  • Date Of Death: March 19, 2021
  • State: Florida

Lynn Grant was born a Leap-Year baby in Long Island, NY in February 1940, the daughter of a hardy New Englander mother and an ambitious New Zealander father. The family moved to Greenville, SC where she grew up steeped in Southern life and tradition. It is there that she developed her lifelong love of horses. She attended the University of Florida and moved to Tallahassee not long after marrying. With a business partner she co-founded Robinhood Kennels, and after that partnership dissolved, owned and operated the business for decades. The business still operates as a family concern.

Lynn was an active member of the Southern Trailrider’s Association for many years and spent most of her weekends after retirement riding horses and maintaining trails. Lynn Grant’s life was characterized by hard work and fierce independence. She loved animals, had a way with plants, and was loved by everyone who knew her. For most of her adult life she drove a truck, wore boots to work, smoked 2+ packs a day, and drank Canadian Hunter whiskey at night. She was still barrel-riding horses competitively at 60 and seemingly had broken every bone in her body twice. Simply stated, she was as tough as a leather strap, but even leather strap wears down over time. Before she died, she prayed to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She is survived by two loving sons, and a daughter.
