Joyce Raye Turner Cushing entered her heavenly home November 29, 2017. She was born to Moldon Lee and Bennie Ray Turner on January 24, 1932 in Jay, Santa Rosa County, Florida. Mrs. Cushing began her formal education in Santa Rosa County schools. She graduated from Leon High School in June 1950. She married the love of her life, Horace W. Cushing on July 27, 1950. Except for the year that he served in the U.S. Army, they have lived their entire married life in Tallahassee. They were blessed with four wonderful daughters, Brenda Jill, Patricia Ann, Mary Catherine and Cynthia Joyce. Throughout their married life, they invested in the Lord’s work by serving in Fellowship Baptist Church. While Horace served in the military (stationed in Columbus, Georgia) Mrs. Cushing was employed and worked on the Ft. Benning Military Base. When they returned to Tallahassee, Joyce was employed by Tallahassee Abstract Company and later The Commonwealth Corporation. In 1968, after being a stay-at-home mom for a time, Joyce went to work with the Leon County School Board (Timberlane/Gilchrist Elementary, Academic Resource Center, the Leon County Schools Administration and Springwood Elementary School). She retired in January 1992. Upon retiring she and Horace enjoyed RV traveling throughout the U.S. Mrs. Cushing is survived by her husband Horace, daughters Pat (husband Thad Lee, Summerdale, AL), Cathy (husband Jack Revell, Bristol, FL) and Cindy (husband David Retherford, Boone, NC). She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren including Lance (wife Michele Revell, Havana, FL), Lawrence (wife Kim Revell, Tallahassee), Lynn (husband Eddie Joe White, Hosford, FL), Katy (husband Justin Gunn, Bristol, FL), Amy (husband Kevin Partridge, Bristol, FL), Ryan (wife Kari Atkinson, Crawfordville, FL), John (wife Connie Brock, Bristol, FL), Jason (wife Amanda Brock, Bristol, FL), Julie Brock, Michael (Jessica Lee, Robertsdale, AL), Patrick (wife Kendal Lee, Mobile, AL) and Sarah (husband Zach Johnson, Knoxville, TN). Other surviving family members include Jean Pospiech of Jay, FL, Winona Tadlock, Tallahassee, Harrell and Ann Cushing, Montgomery, Shirley Cushing, Eustis, Earl and Mary Cushing, Tallahassee, Ruth Garrett, Tallahassee, Pat and Carolyn Anderson, Beach Mountain, NC, John and Naomi Ferguson, Pensacola. Mrs. Cushing was predeceased by her parents, Molden and Bennie (Johnnie) Turner, her brothers Buford and Wayne Turner, daughter Jill Cushing McArthur, son-in-law Tommy Brock.
