Jessie Mae Howard was born on May 23, 1939, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late ldona Holland and Kenneth Holland, Sr.
Jessie grew up in a household filled with art and music. Her mother was sweet, loving, and very spiritual. Her father was stern and required that his children sing and learn to play at least two musical instruments. Jessie and her siblings would perform before friends and family.
Jessie married Joseph “Joe” Smith, Sr. in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and they had seven children, Shirley Smith (deceased), Joseph Smith, Jr. (deceased), Rhonda Smith, Melanie Green, Gail Washington. Leslie Brown, Lori Warren, Gayla Randle, and Joseph (Joey) Smith.
Jessie was a loving mother, a prayer warrior who loved to laugh. paint, draw, sing, read, sew, listen to jazz attend plays, watch professional tennis and basketball, play and teach piano. She was a gifted and talented artist. Although she doubted her craft, she painted a host of beautiful paintings/drawings and was a finalist in several art exhibits in Indianapolis and showcased her artwork in Atlanta, Georgia. Many original pieces are displayed in her children’s homes.
Jessie was called to be with the Lord at the age of 83 on Monday, September 5, 2022.
