Jean Maxine Oldham, 90, was born July 3, 1931 to Ashby Albert Kersey and Lula Belle Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana.
For the past 17 years, Jean lived with her daughter, Dr. Janis Oldham, in Greensboro, North Carolina. There, she accompanied Janis to many North Carolina A&T events.
Jean attended Indianapolis Public Schools, and graduated from Crispus Attucks in 1949. She continued her education at the Indianapolis City Hospital school of nursing. Upon graduation where she was the “outstanding bedside nurse of the 1952 graduating class,” she joined the American Red Cross.
Jean held several nursing positions around Indianapolis, including helping to open two nursing homes and working in the Marion County General Hospital. She received her nursing in 1982.
Jean married her childhood friend Donald L. Oldham Sr 1954. Together they raised five children. Jean was active in her children’s school lives, serving in multiple capacities within their PTO and Girl Scouts.
Jean was a member of Chi Eta Phi nursing sorority. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and crocheting. She loved doing her puzzles.
Jean passed peacefully September 5, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Oldham, Sr; daughters, Dr. Sherril Jones, and Dr. Janis Oldham. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, her sons, Donald (April), Michael, and Stephen; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
