Mrs. Gwendolyn Eudonas Glasgow peacefully passed on into the loving arms of her Saviour Jesus Christ, Thursday, April 11, 7:57 p.m. at home with her daughter at her bedside holding her hand. After 20 years of fighting an arduous fight to restore her mobility after a work related injury, she became critically ill of a digestive disorder in December.
Born on March 8, 1937, in Eufaula, Alabama, Gwendolyn was the youngest daughter of Jacob and Birdie Glasgow. Her mother, Mrs. Birdie, passed on to heaven, one month before Gwendolyn’s first birthday. Later, Gwendolyn married in Newville, Alabama, and moved out-of-state for work. Gwendolyn spent 30 years as an Emergency Room Nurse, Operating Room Nurse, and Nurse Assistant And she raised three children. She was an extraordinarily immensely committed mother that went above-and-beyond in love and care for her children. She loved Jesus all of her life with all her heart. Her kind heart, her beauty, her amazing strength and her persistence will always be remembered. She is known for her beautiful opera singing voice and her ministering of prayer to the sick. She spent many years singing in church choirs. She enjoyed the symphony and being active. She also volunteered as a library storybook reader to children in Georgia. Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her late husband James H. Brown Sr, her sister Dorothy Glasgow and her brother singer Charlie Glasgow.
Survivors include two sisters: Thelma Walker (wife of Moses Walker, deceased) Jonnnie Lee Guilford (wife of the late Bobby Lee Guilford Sr., deceased); brother: James Glasgow; her daughter military veteran Valma K. Glasgow; two sons: classical pianist T. Mitchell Brown and former Police Officer James H. Brown Jr.; two daughters-in-law Nurse Symone H. Brown and News Producer Patricia C. Brown; two grandchildren Bianca A. Brown and Jared T. Brown; and many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
