Frances Joan “Ann” Weaver Peeples, 87, passed away at Big Bend Hospice House, Tallahassee, on Friday, July 14, 2017. Ann was born in Sowhatchee, Early County, Georgia, to John Roy Weaver and Mary Emma Jane Roberts Weaver on October 21, 1929. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Henry Cary Peeples; her parents; her brother, Jack Weaver (Sybil); and her sisters, Elizabeth Evans (Samuel), Addie Amos (Tom), Constance Messer (Travis), Lorraine Lawson (Dr. Bill), and Martha Kautzman (Doug). Ann is survived by her daughters, Karen Watson (Andy) of Tallahassee and Cheryl Blanton (Ed) of Franklin, North Carolina; her sister, M. Carrol Grondine of Bismarck, North Dakota; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann grew up in Early County, Georgia then moved to Warner Robins, Georgia, where she was salutatorian of her high school graduating class. After high school, Ann and her sister, Connie, went to live with the Uncle “Mose” and Aunt “Ramona” Turner in Leesburg, Florida. Ann and Connie worked in their relatives’ furniture store, Turner’s. While in Leesburg, Connie and her then-boyfriend, Travis Messer, set up Travis’ childhood friend and college roommate, Cary Peeples, on a blind date with Ann. Cary became the love of Ann’s life. Ann also worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at a cattle auction in Lakeland, Florida; and at Off-Campus Housing, Lerner’s Department Store and, for 17 years, at the Florida School Food Service Association in Tallahassee. Ann enjoyed cooking, sewing, making crafts and solving crossword puzzles. She made clothes and costumes for her daughters’ dance classes, Rickards High School Chorus ensembles and the Tallahassee Civic Ballet Company. She was a Brownie Scout Leader.
