Mrs Frances D. Vicario

 United States

  • Date Of Birth: May 15, 1916
  • Date Of Death: May 1, 2010
  • State: Connecticut

A life long resident of Waterbury, Frances Estelle (Dougherty) Vicario passed through the gates of this life on May 1, 2010 two weeks short of her 94th birthday.  She was the widow of Michael A. Vicario who preceded her in death in April, 1992, after 51 years of marriage.  Born on May 15, 1916 to the late Thomas and Gertrude (Chandler) Dougherty she attended Sacred Heart Grammar and High Schools.  A graduate of Perry’s Business School Fran worked at the Redwood Furniture Store on East Main St. before working as secretary-clerk to the Superintendent of the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad in Waterbury.

Fran was an active, independent woman, and her interests were numerous and diverse. Her political awareness, both local and national, never waned; she worked on local campaigns as well as advocating for the interests of State retirees in her retirement years. She was the original Martha Stewart of the domestic arts, never hesitating to attempt new sewing, gardening, and decorating projects, wallpapering into her eighties, and growing enough conifer trees to cut one each Christmas. Inspired by her innate curiosity and love of learning, Fran was an avid reader, joining a book club in her eighties.

Fran is survived by her children, Michael A. Vicario, of Waterbury, and Jeanette F. Nadeau, of Santa Barbara, CA., her brothers, Thomas Dougherty of Morris, and James Doherty of Cheshire, their wives, Lorraine and Frances, respectively,  as well as her many nephews and their families. The family expresses our deep appreciation to Connecticut Community Cares, Inc.

Fran was long time parishioner of Sts.
