Florence L. Boyce-Egan nee Bergmann Age 90 of Palos Heights since 1983 passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 1, 2011 of congestive heart failure with her family and care-giver Jenny present.
Florence was born January 11, 1921 in DuQuoin, Illinois to Philip and Louisa Bergmann, raised on her family farm, and graduated in 1938 from Elkville High School after receiving the Daughter of the American Revolution Award. She moved to Indianapolis in 1941 to pursue an executive secretary career. There she married Thomas Duane Boyce in 1950. As a homemaker, Florence raised nine children with Tom in Miami, Buffalo, Cincinnati and Chicago Heights. She remained active with her parish Saint Alexander’s. She received the “Senior of the Year” Award by PLOWS in 1995. Florence loved spending time with her family, hosting dinners, and dancing at Willowbrook Ballroom. She and Tom Boyce were owners of Dandy’s Drive-In from 1967-1969, and other businesses in the 1970’s, including Tastee-Freeze, and two laundromats. After Tom’s death in 1974, Florence married Harry Egan of Palos Heights in 1981, who passed away in 1989.
She is survived by sisters Hilda and Theresa, her children Thomas (Marge) Boyce, Mary Alstrom, Beth Boyce, Mark Boyce, Jeanne (Bob) Filipp, John (Marlo) Boyce, Robert (Pam) Boyce, Patricia (Brian) Smith, and Andrew (Kelly) Boyce; and 18 grandchildren Jesse, Bonnie, Jacob, Erin, Rebecca, Danielle, Sandra, Kristine, Gabrielle, Amber, Allison, Logan, Joseph, John Joseph II, Jacqueline, Thomas Duane II, Audrey, and Conor. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouses, brothers Sylvester and Charles, sister Inez, and son-in-law Ken.
