Evelyn Starnes Pelfrey of Clio, AL passed away Saturday November 7, 2015 after a brief illness. She was 62 years old.
Evelyn was born April 16, 1953 in Nashville, TN. Her father was a Methodist minister and because her parents served as Methodist missionaries, Evelyn lived for several years as a child in Belgium and the Belgium Congo in Africa. She had a lifelong love for writing and graduated college with a journalism degree from the University of Georgia, and worked for many years in newspaper, radio and TV broadcasting – locally as well as in Huntsville, Birmingham, New York City and Washington, DC. In recent years she derived great joy and satisfaction in becoming a syndicated columnist and writing a weekly column, titled ESPressions, published locally in The Clayton Record. Evelyn was proud of her family and her heritage, and was honored to serve as an officer of the Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Bill M. Starnes. Surviving relatives include her husband, Jack Pelfrey, Clio, AL; her mother, Rosemary T. Starnes, of Tullahoma, TN; three sisters: Carol (and Phil) Terry, Juno Beach, FL; Linda (and Bruce) Edwards, Nashville, TN; Suzanne (and Randy) Martin, Whites Creek, TN; and one brother, Robert Starnes, Tullahoma, TN; and many nephews and nieces.
