Deborah Helms Long on October 8, 2014 at 12:08am, Deborah Long, age 62, went home to be with Jesus after a long illness with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Deborah was born on February 1, 1952, to Travis E. Helms and Carolyn W. Helms, in Blue Springs, Alabama.
She is preceded in death by her Father, Travis Helms.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bobby Long, as well as her 3 children—Tabetha Portz (Stan) of Blue Springs, Craig Long (Beth) of Clio, and Charisse Murphy (Matt) of Ariton; 8 Grandchildren—Justin Portz, Dylan Portz, Mallory Portz, Baylee Long, Mary Beth Long, Emma Claire Long, Cooper Murphy, and Luke Murphy; her Mother Carolyn Helms of Blue Springs; 2
brothers—Larry Helms(Donna) of Eufaula and Vince Helms(Betty) of Prattville; also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Deborah graduated as an R.N. in 1985 and worked many years at Dale County Hospital as Head Nurse, retiring in 2006. She was a very compassionate worker and leader, giving her allto her
patients as well as co-workers. Her laughter and beautiful smile were always contagious. She was a holy woman, as she served God to the fullest, as well as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. She was a member of Rhema Baptist Church, in Blue Springs. She was a church pianist for most of her life. She loved spending time with those she loved, as family was very important to her. She was passionate about life and had a determination thatwas second to none.
