Mrs. Catherine (Kitty) Gherlone, age 78, beloved wife of 41 years to the late Louis J. Gherlone, passed away surrounded by her loving family at Milford Hospital on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Daughter of the late Manuel and Bessie Koch Mendez, she was born on January 22, 1932 in Bronx, NY. She was raised on Goss’s Farm in Guilford, CT.
Kitty worked at many restaurants in New Haven and met many celebrities and entertainers from the 50’s to the 80’s at places like Kaysey’s, the Oneco and the Ballroom at the Hotel Taft. She will be remembered for her love of family, hard work, strength and quick wit. Kitty’s famous humor, parties and entertaining stories will live on for generations to come. Lou and Kitty were part of many families’ Christmas celebrations. Their Christmas tree farm at their home in Orange was the site of many annual holiday traditions.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Lehrer and her husband George and Louis M. Gherlone and his wife Linda both of Orange. Eight cherished grandchildren Kim, Marc, Eric, Jamie, Alexa, Ashley, Nicole, Chloe and stepson Lance Gherlone.
