Mrs. Angela Mcleod, 56 of 2570 Cotton Road, Sanford, NC passed on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.
Angela went from being an earthly angel to a heavenly angel on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, after waging a courageous fight against breast cancer.
Angela was born in Moore County on November 20, 1956, to Bernice Atkins Martin and the late Willie R. “Bill” Martin. She had bravely and fearlessly fought cancer since her diagnosis in August 2009. Angela enjoyed life. She enjoyed reading, working in her garden and volunteering. She also loved to travel, loved her family, church family and her community. She served on the executive board of the Salvation Army, the Lee County Tax Board of Equalization and Review, and was the first black female to serve as Vice Chair on the City of Sanford Planning Board and Board of Adjustment. She owned and operated her own real estate company, ALM Realty, while working a successful career as a Legal Assistant for the law offices of Davis & Wilson and Wilson & Reives, PLLC for thirty-three years before she retired. Her zest for life impacted everyone around her and those in her community who came in contact with her.
Preceding her in death in addition to her father; one brother, Robert “Bobby” Martin and sister, Stassia M. Henderson. Surviving in addition to her mother, Bernice of Carthage, NC; her husband, Andrae R. McLeod Sr., of the home, son Phillip B. McLeod of Pensacola, Florida; daughter, Nyree D. Thompson and stepson, Andrae Russell McLeod Jr. , of Sanford, NC; sisters, Thurlia E. Martin of Sanford and Eydie R. Martin of Durham, NC; brothers, Michael W. Martin of Roanoke, VA and Jamie M. Martin of Carthage, NC; four grandchildren: Andrea Monique McLeod, Kevin Michael McLeod, Taylor Siamone Thompson and Travis “Trey” Thompson, Jr. all of Sanford, NC.
