William David Powell, 77, of Crawfordville, Florida, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021. A son of Leslie Wilbur Powell, Sr. and Nannie Laura Barker Powell, of blessed memory, he was born in Monticello, Florida on August 5, 1943. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Wilbur Powell, Jr.
He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1964 until 1970, having attained the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he went to work and retired from Leon County Facilities as a Superintendent. An avid Seminole sports fan, he also enjoyed freshwater fishing, watching the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants and spending time with his family. Prior to moving to Crawfordville, he, along with his wife, were members at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen Nichols Powell; children, Leslie Powell, Will Powell (wife, Leigh) and Barker Powell (wife, Dana); grandchildren, Jessica Powell, Ethan Powell, Nolen Powell and Keira Powell; and siblings, James Powell (wife, Mary) and LaVerne Zolkosky (husband, Vince); as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his classmates from Havana High School, Class of 1961.
