Von Parker Powers passed away on December 9, 2021. He was 85.

Von is survived by Betty, his wife of 62 years; brothers, George Powers, Richard Powers and Sam Powers; sisters, Ann Ray, Joy Cochran, Deana McClanahan, Myrl Clevenger, Pat Bianco and Pam Chase; children, David Powers, Angela Matherne and Sonya Edwards; grandchildren, Adran Godwin, Shane Godwin, Brandon Powers and Wyatt Edwards; and great-grandchildren, Caitlin Godwin, Austin Godwin and Madison Godwin.
Von was born in Bee, Virginia and upon graduating high school, joined the United States Army in 1954. Von served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions and completed two tours in the Vietnam Theater. In 1968, Von and Betty settled the family in Marion, Alabama, where he taught at the Marion Military Institute.
After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1976, Von changed careers and became a licensed electrician.
Von loved to hunt and fish and especially loved playing poker with his brothers and exchanging stories that grew more outrageous each time they were retold. In his golden years, he loved to take long walks and feed the fish in his pond.
Von was a devout Christian, and he and Betty were members at New Hope Baptist Church.
