MR. SAMMIE "PAW" JONES, JR.

Sammie “Paw” Jones Jr. was born in Money, Mississippi on December 11, 1943, to the late Sammie Jones Sr. and Emma Mae Ingram.

At a young age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Sammie graduated from Amanda Elzy High School in Greenwood, MS and soon after relocated to Indianapolis.  He served in the U.S.

After his return home to Indianapolis, he earned an Associate Degree in Business and was co-founder of Jones Bros. Construction along with his brother, Jimmy “Buck” Jones. He received his certification as a skilled welder and was a talented and knowledgeable handyman. 

Sammie retired from his primary employer, Eli Lilly & Co.

On February 13, 1988.  Sammie married April Emerson (Jones) and would dedicate 34 years to her as a loving, caring, and considerate husband.  To this union their youngest son, Daniel Philip Jones was born. 

Sammie was a caring attentive father to one daughter, Lori Smedley Hoggatt and five sons, Charles “Chuck” Walker, Jason Scott Jones, Stori Emerson, Anthony Treadwell, and Daniel P. Jones. 

Sammie enjoyed cooking, grilling, fishing, and doing various projects around his home.  He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.  He loved get-togethers with his large family and good friends.

Sammie possessed a good nature and a “ready smile,” and wouldn’t hesitate to help others using his gifts. 

God called Sammie to his Heavenly Home on August 21, 2022.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie, Sr. and Emma Jones; uncle, Ezell Jones Sr.; siblings, Lula Jones, Lizzie Jones, Lecie Jones, Jimmy Jones, Tyrone Jones, and Clarettta Stanton.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, April Emerson-Jones; one daughter, Lori Smedley Hoggatt; five sons, Charles “Chuck” Walker, Jason Scott Jones, Stori Emerson, Anthony Treadwell, and Daniel P. Jones nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, John Jones (Mary) of Blytheville, AR; two sisters, Viola Cannon of Rutherford, TN and LaVon Fisher of Woodridge, IL; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
