S. Strome Maxwell, 85, of Tallahassee, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021.
The only child of the late Russell B. Maxwell and Rhea Strome Maxwell, he was born in Huntington, West Virginia. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his second wife, Jean Westfall Maxwell.
A Duke University undergraduate with a Juris Doctorate Law Degree from Stetson University School of Law, he began his career in Jacksonville before moving to Tallahassee, where he worked for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation for 35 years. He was a loving father and husband with charisma and a quick wit. In his spare time, he was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly of the Seminoles, and enjoyed being a world traveler. He was also fond of rescue cats. He also served his country in the United States Army.
He is survived by his children, Daniel Maxwell (wife, Jodie) and Candace Ann Maxwell; grandchildren, Skylar Maxwell, Alexis Hartsfield (husband, Brian), Carson Crews and Zachary Maxwell; and great-grandchildren, Hampton Hartsfield and Hayes Hartsfield. He is also survived by his former wife and close friend, Alice Autrey.
