Roy T. Smith Jr. (92), a resident of Orange for 57 years died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at his home in Orange. He was born in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Roy T. and Hazel M. (Lockard) Smith.
While on Guam, he met his wife-to-be, Stella Makar, one of a group of 12 Navy flight nurses who were flying into Iwo Jima and Okinawa, evacuating the more seriously wounded and taking them to base hospitals.
In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, he leaves two daughters; Marlene Garceau of Bethany and Tracey Smith-Oliver of Fairfield, VA, and two sons, Roderick Smith of Westport and Roy Smith III of West Haven, as well as five grandchildren; Tyler and Linleigh Smith, Marston Garceau, and Allegra and Alexander Smith.
