I was born in Miami, Florida in 1927. This was written some time ago so you will have to do the math as to how long I lived. Life for me wasn’t so bad but I do remember the times of “The Great Depression” and I was just turning 14 when the U.S. entered “The War.”
I grew up in Miami and after graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1945, I joined the U.S. Navy. Fortunately for me, World War II ended about three months after I enlisted so I never saw action. I served three and a half years as an electrician on islands in the Pacific and also in the Aleutian Islands. After discharge from the Navy, I attended the University of Miami with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
I married Beverly Radley in 1951. We had over 50 years of blissful marriage before she passed away in 2001. We raised three children, Robert Thomas, Jr., David Alan and Lisa Joy. Unfortunately, Robert, Jr. passed away in 1987.
After graduation from college, I worked for two years with Western Electric Company in Burlington, North Carolina before joining Florida Power and Light Company in Miami. I became a Registered Professional Engineer in 1957. I had a very good 34 year career at FPL and retired as a Staff Engineer in 1989. In 2009, I moved to Ocala, Florida until I moved to Tallahassee in 2019.
I am survived by David and Marta, and their children, Allison and Katharine; Lisa and Colin Healy, and their son, William; and various nieces and nephews in Florida and Georgia.
I really didn’t accomplish any great lasting things in my lifetime; I just lived my life and hopefully touched people along the way.
That’s about it. As Eva Rose York so aptly put it, “I shall not pass this way again—Although it bordered be with flowers.” Goodbye family and friends, I loved you!!
