Mr. Robert D. Butler, 58, of Stratford, passed away Sunday morning July 25, 2010 at The Hospital of St. Raphael, following a long illness.
Beloved husband of 38 years to Sheila Donahue Butler and loving father to Timothy Butler of Stamford and Laura Gibson of Glastonbury, Robert was born in Bridgeport on July 8, 1952 to Julie Richard Butler and the late James T. Butler.
In addition to his most cherished roles of husband and father, he was the Chief Financial Officer for the APT Foundation in New Haven. Prior to joining APT he spent 15 years with Blue Cross Blue Shield of CT.
Bob was known and admired for his laid back, friendly demeanor and absolute dedication to everything he undertook, personally and professionally. For years, he coached his son’s Little League team in Milford. He loved cheering his daughter on as a competitive ice skater and served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for her synchronized Ice Skating Team. An avid outdoorsman who relished every chance to hit the golf course, he was also an active member of the Orange Hills Men’s Golf Association. He especially enjoyed going to the gym. He had an easygoing charm and loved being around people.
In addition to his wife, Sheila and their loving children, Timothy Butler and his wife Angela of Stamford; Laura Gibson and her husband Jason of Glastonbury, Robert is survived by his mother Julie Butler and sister Cheryl Butler both of Stratford, his two brothers; James Butler Jr. and his wife Carol of FL, and Frank Butler of NC, and his mother in law, Margaret “Peg” Donahue of Milford, as well as several nieces and nephews.
