Mr. Richard Wayne Smith, age 69, of Opelika passed away at his residence on Friday, February 24, 2017.
Mr. Smith was born on June 17, 1947 in West Point, Georgia to the late Archie L. Smith and Susie Irene Smith.
He was a United States Veteran having served in the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the National Defense Service Medal.
He later went on to work for and retire from Auburn University. His hobbies included frequenting flea markets and watching NCIS.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Turner Smith; children, Stephanie Irene Midkiff, Alan Wayne Smith, Margaret Diana McIntire, Michael Calvin Smith, Jennifer Lynn Smith, Bryan David Smith, Robert Vaughn Smith; brother, Thomas Calvin Smith; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
