Richard “Dick” Waterhouse died at the age of 80 at Bridgeport Hospital on July 2, 2010 after complications from Parkinson’s disease. Mr. Waterhouse was born in Milford on October 5, 1929 where he grew up on Walnut Beach and lived his entire life in Milford. His two loving daughters Becky and Amanda, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive him.
Richard graduated from Milford High School and married his high school sweetheart Beverly Dunphy in 1950. They were married for more than 40 years before her death. He was the Vice President of the former Milford Manufacturing.
Dick was a lifelong tennis player and avid fan. He played many years and on many courts with his best friend Leroy Doolittle. He enjoyed painting and shared his work with family and friends. He loved antique furniture and spent time finding and restoring old chairs.
Dick and Beverly were members of CT Classic Arts and worked to help found the Milford Fine Arts Council. They enjoyed traveling and took many trips from Spain and Mexico to Egypt and much of the Caribbean. They brought tennis racquets on every trip and stopped at every bakery they could. One of their favorite trips was to France to see Renoir’s Garden.
Richard is survived by his two daughters, Becky Goggins and her husband Ronald, and Amanda Amato and her husband George. He leaves five grandchildren, Christopher Cookson and his wife Summer, Rachel Cookson, Ellen Goggins, Mary Troiano and her husband David and Grace Amato and three great grandchildren Lillian and Henry Richard Cookson and Gabrielle Cookson. He is also survived by his sister Harriette Racz and her husband Steve, sister-in-law Phyllis and husband Jean Riviere, brother Doug Waterhouse and his wife Beverly and several nieces, nephews and their families. Richard was the son of the late Mark and Florence Gammon Waterhouse. He was predeceased by brothers Mark, Philip and David and sisters Flay and Beth.
The family would like to thank his special caregivers Mary, Wongeita and Alimot. Also the staff at Bridgeport Hospital Richardson 7 and Tower 8 and to his physician, Dr. Todd Tracy.
