Richard A. Terry, Sr, age 88, longtime resident of Milford and beloved husband of the late Joyce Terry, passed away from a tragic accident in Westport on Saturday, November 6, 2010.  Son of the late Franklin and Elizabeth Goss Terry, he was born in New Haven on July 10, 1922.  Dick served with pride and honor in the US Army Air Corps during WWII.  He graduated with a BA from Central Connecticut and earned his Masters at SCSU.  Dick worked for the Milford Board of Education as a shop teacher of Industrial Arts for Automotive and Metal.  

Dick founded and coached the Milford Gymnastics program and was most instrumental in bringing about the sport of gymnastics statewide for Connecticut.  Dick served as Assistant coach for the UB and the SCSU gymnastics programs and was associated with many Olympians.  He was an energetic and vibrant force in the world of gymnastics and gave so much of himself in all sporting activities. He enjoyed being an avid spectator to all Milford High School and CT college sports. Dick was also a volunteer with the Yale Athletic program.

He is survived by two children, Richard A. Terry, Jr. and his wife Jay of Milford, Joanne Nelson and her husband Jerry of North Haven, four cherished grandchildren, Shawn Terry and his wife Elizabeth of Surry, VA, Tracee Terry of Milford, Danielle Parillo and husband Christopher of North Haven and Brittany Nelson of North Haven and one great grandson, Anthoney Terry of Surry, VA.  Also several nieces and nephews.
