Melvin Sim Terry, 87, of Tallahassee, passed away while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 22, 2020. Born in Tifton, Georgia on December 23, 1932, he was a son of the late John Hanna and Lila Pearl Childs Terry. He spent 42 years in law enforcement, working for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Tallahassee Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Melvin was happiest sitting in a tree stand during hunting season and drowning worms the rest of the year.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carmen Platt Terry; daughter, Melanie Terry both of Tallahassee; brother, Gary G. Terry; daughter, Cindy Terry Gramling (Stan); Terry Cay Gramling, granddaughter; Brenda Terry, daughter and several nephews. Preceding him in death are a brother, Larry B. Terry; and a sister, Wanda Beasley Braswell.
