Lloyd Melvin Townsend, 86, passed away in his sleep on Friday, June 15, 2022. Lloyd was born in Maxton, NC on August 29, 1935, to Fred and Bessie Townsend.
He left Maxton at the age of 16 for Norfolk, VA and lived in New York as well as Tampa Florida.
Lloyd married Loretta Simmons in October of 1958. Together they raised 4 children. Amongst his many accomplishments, Lloyd served in the Korean War and was a successful businessman owning a number of car dealerships including Lloyd Townsend Auto Sales.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his siblings, James Coy Townsend, James Campbell, Katie Lee Moore, and Fred Townsend Jr.
Lloyd was survived by: his four children, Brigitte Carol Fowlers, Lloyd Melvin Townsend Jr, Curtis Townsend (Maria), and Garrett Townsend (Robyn); grand-children, Chanel Shayla Nicole Delaney, Ashley Lauren Ayala (Walter), Jasmine Sierra Ware, Alexander Elan Fowlers, Garrett Caleb Townsend (Karlie), Romando Curtis Townsend, and Jaden Perez; great-grandchildren, Rylan Ajani Barkley ,Alexa Kataleya Ayala, Lucas Cruz Skywalker Ayala, Sofia Gray Ayala, and Spring Mayzlee Townsend; and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
