Joseph William Huttner, Jr. died peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2010 at the age of 81, with his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia McGriff Huttner, at his bedside.

He was preceded in death by his parents , Joseph William Huttner, Sr. and Mary Crumb Huttner, and his only son , Matthew H. Huttner.

Mr. Huttner was a native and lifetime resident of New Orleans, La. He was a graduate of Rugby Academy and Tulane University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1951.While at Tulane, he was a member of the R.O.T.C. and earned a commission in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps and served from 1951 – 1953. While in the R.O.T.C. he was inducted into Scabbard and Blade Honorary Society. He was in the insurance industry for most of his working life and retired as a

vice president of Alexander and Alexander Insurance Co.

An avid sailboat skipper he was a past longtime member of the N.O.Y.C. where he participated in many regattas on Lake Pontchartrain, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the Gulf of Mexico. He won quite a few trophies along the way.

Another sport he greatly enjoyed was fishing. He loved being in the marsh pulling up specks and reds, and any other hapless fish who came into his range.

A very talented wood carver, he produced a number of miniature duck decoys, shore birds, fish, and sailboats he had owned.

Some of his happiest times were spent at his summer home in Pass Christian Isles, Ms. Where he enjoyed shrimping, crabbing, fishing, and just taking it easy.

Besides his loving wife, Pat, he is survived by a sister Gloria Huttner Ross of Hammond, La. His other sister, Hope Huttner Stewart of Slidell, La. and Mandeville, La. died in the afternoon of the same day of Joe’s death.

He also leaves two devoted Godchildren, David W. Stewart (Dinah) of Slidell, La. and Julie Burns Calhoun (Tom) of Houma, La. plus many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
