John “Jack” Warren Binns Jr. passed away at 87 on August 2nd 2020, at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. He was born in Philadelphia in 1933. He served in the Armed Forces from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War.

He attended Temple University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. He later went on to get his Masters from University of Florida and completed his Doctoral studies at Michigan State University. He married his beloved wife, Beverly Moore in Philadelphia, PA in 1956. They moved to Port Orange, FL in 1957. They had two children John W. Binns III and Brenda J. Binns. In 1966, the family relocated to Tallahassee where he remained until his death. Jack worked as an Administrator for the Florida Department of Education.

During his career he was instrumental in creating a program that provided FL schools with educational materials in instructional television and radio. He developed a program that allowed the FL school systems to have a broader range of materials that would not be financially possible if purchased at the local level. Jack had many interests including photography, woodworking, reading and traveling. He traveled extensively through out the United States and Canada.

He is predeceased by his wife, Beverly Moore Binns; and is survived by his son, John Warren Binns III, daughter-in-law, Cindy Binns; daughter, Brenda Jeanne Binns; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
