He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Kenneth Carter and Kelly Carter both of Raleigh, N.C.; six stepchildren, Leroy Elliot (Debra) of Charlotte, N.C., Theodor Elliot (Debra) of Knightdale, N.C., Regina Elliot of Texas, Jerome Elliot (Phyllis) of Raleigh, N.C., Danny Elliot (Shari) of Pittsboro, N.C. and Janice Elliot (Miguel) of Danville, Virgina; one brother, Clarence Surles of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Alston (Alton) of Raleigh, N.C. and Minnie McKoy of Lillington, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Nora Smith and Lucille Elliot; 7 grandchildren; 10 step- grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn a dear friend Martha Gunter and his caregiver that stood by his side to the end Larhonda Worthy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
