John Henry “Jack” Kelly, Jr., 81 of Orange, CT, beloved husband of 52 years to Lucille Ward Kelly, passed away at home on Friday, November 26, 2010 after a lengthy illness. The son of Cecilia and John Kelly, Jack was born on June 30, 1929 in Melrose, MA. He graduated from Melrose High School where he was president of both his class and the National Honor Society as well as a three sport varsity athlete and the first recipient of the Fred W. Green Award. Jack brought his athletic ability to Northeastern University where he excelled in football and baseball and earned a degree in Industrial Management. He is a member of the Northeastern University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Beginning as a representative for Edgecomb Steel, Jack built a very successful career in the steel industry that spanned over 40 years and produced many lasting friendships. Prior to retiring in 1992, Jack was President of Rafferty-Brown Steel Corporation of Waterbury, CT.
Jack was generous with his time and energy, coaching youth sports in Orange, CT for 15 years.
In addition to his wife, he is mourned by his four children, whom he loved and respected, and their spouses; John and Donna Kelly of North Wales, PA, Mary Elizabeth and Michael McGuinness of Southborough, MA, Caroline and David Ryan of Woodbridge, CT and Peter Kelly and Yelena Damsky of Milford, CT. He will also be deeply missed by his eight grandchildren, of whom he was very proud; Michael, Matthew and Amanda McGuinness, Marykate, Elizabeth and Jack Kelly and Victoria and David Ryan. Also surviving are his sister Carol Scully of Melrose, MA, sisters-in-law Louise Kelly Conolly of Scituate, MA and Joan Wastrom Ward of Glenrock, NJ and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sister Mary Kearney of Stoneham, MA and his brother Robert Kelly of Scituate, MA.
Jack will be loved and remembered always.
